The Catwalk Goes Online: Mexico’s Fimoda Fashion Industry Fair

Today, the global catwalks for fashion and design companies in the Mexican state of Guanajuato and other parts of Mexico are digital platforms. As mentioned in a recent article on Al Día, a multi-platform media company dedicated to highlighting the contributions of Americans of Latino descent to business, politics and culture, NOVICA offers a new way for fashion designers to showcase their designs.

“We have Amazon, and Trendy Folk, which showcases some of the best products made by Mexican and Latin American designers, as well as Novica, created in association with National Geographic, which provides value to handicrafts,” Pedro Azael Nieto Ramirez, head of international promotion for the state’s Cofoce foreign trade agency, told EFE journalists at the recent Fimoda fashion industry fair in Guanajuato. “These platforms are being used at the sales stands to help the companies take advantage of this new channel, namely e-commerce, so that they can sell their products online,” Nieto said in the Al Día article.

According to Al Día, Fimoda aims to promote the fashion industry of Guanajuato through partnerships with worldwide fashion, design and distribution firms. The two-day fair includes a design contest that provides valuable exposure for young Mexican fashion designers.

NOVICA sources up-and-coming fashions from local designers through its artisan empowerment hub in Mexico. Every clothing purchase made on the website helps promote ethical, fair-trade business opportunities for designers and makers alike.
