She was left further traumatized by this near-death experience when she learned that she was the only one of the six patients hospitalized with her that survived. Ruben and Gilda's youngest son, Brandon Jose, had a seizure when he was one year old which led to serious treatment for four years. When he was eight years old, he developed hyperthyroidism and diabetes, which are both now controlled with treatment. Even with extreme care, their son's condition is very challenging and often requires surgery. Ruben and Gilda couldn't love their children more and face each day with a positive attitude and will to face whatever challenges are thrown their way. They are amazing parents who strive everyday to give their children the best life possible. They work to give Brandon Jose a normal life without limitations.show less
